What is group therapy like?Group therapy can be an ideal choice to address your concerns and accelerate positive life changes. Our group sessions are led by one or more psychologists serving roughly five to 15 members. Group sessions usually occur one time per week for several months. Some people choose to attend individual therapy in addition to group sessions, while others participate in groups only. Groups can be designed to target specific or general problems, such as depression, social anxiety, improving social skills, shyness, loneliness, low self-esteem, life transitions, and grief. Groups can be open or closed. Open groups are typically ongoing with no specified end date and allow for people to join anytime. Closed group sessions usually have a limited number of sessions (e.g., 8, 10, 12 weeks); and typically do not allow people to join once the group starts. Our group sessions typically lasts 60 minutes.

What are the benefits of group therapy?Group therapy offers benefits that you cannot get in individual therapy. Specifically, groups can act as a support network for group members where ideas are generated that help with life challenges and group members hold each other accountable. Regularly talking and listening to others in a group session can provide relief by helping you put problems in perspective and keep you from feeling alone. You also have the opportunity to practice learned skills in real time.
